Matvey Dobrov received excellent training in arts, with K. Yuon, A. Arkhipov and A. Stepanov among his teachers. In 1908-9 he studied etching at E. Kruglikova’s school in Paris. Later he himself taught etching techniques at the Moscow Fine Arts Institute and the Surikov State Institute of Arts from 1930 to 1950.
