Tshernichov new 010 Boris Chernyshev. Model. 1965

In the 1960s Chernyshev enthusiastically drew nudes. His passion for the method of painting on wet plaster explains his choice of either wrapping paper or newspapers as ground for his graphic works. These materials possess specific qualities of a shrinking surface similar to drying plaster and produce the matte effect.

In 2007 the State Tretyakov Gallery staged Chernyshev’s solo exhibition. His works are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and many provincial Russian museums, as well as in private collections. The Galart Publishers put out a book about Boris Petrovich Chernyshev, compiled by his daughter, M.B. Chernysheva, in 2007 to mark the artist’s birth centenary.
