6101 Winter Garden: Flowers in 20th century Russian and European Paintings and Graphic Works

On the one hand, this project carries on the series of gallery exhibitions under the umbrella name ”Fragments”, and on the other, the current exposition can be treated as quite an independent undertaking. The 2.36 Gallery arranged a “Winter Garden” in its small premises in the Old Arbat. This longing for warmth and beauty is only too human. By the end of winter every one of us is sick and tired of snow and frosts. We want spring, warmth and sun so much! In expectation of all that and on the occasion of the forthcoming International Women’s Day (March 8th) the “Winter Garden” was laid out.

On show are mostly works by Russian artists of the middle and second half of the 20th century, such as Rostislav Barto, Alexey Kamensky, Boris Markevich, Maria Raube-Gorchilina, Alexander Rusakov and Antonina Sofronova. The first half of the 20th century is represented by works of French artists, including Alix Ayme, Ismael de la Serna and Isis Kischka.

We hope that our modest endeavors will be a contribution, however modest, to hastening the coming of Spring.  Flowers have always been its main symbols everywhere, and they are what we have prepared for you.
